Why back glass takes more care

Rear glass usually includes a printed heating grid for defrosting, and it's either bonded to the body or held in a gasket. If the connectors aren't reattached properly, the defroster won't work. If the frame isn't prepped well, water can find its way into the trunk or cargo area. That's why we clean the mounting surface, seal the glass and test the defroster before we leave.

Most back glass is tempered, so when it fails it shatters into small pieces. Those pieces settle into seat seams, trunk liners and door jambs, and a thorough cleanup is part of every rear window job.

Back glass comes in many shapes: fixed rear windows on sedans and coupes, liftgate glass on SUVs and hatchbacks, and rear windows on pickups and vans. When you request a quote, share your year, make and model and whether the glass has tint, a wiper or an antenna, so we bring the correct part. If other windows were damaged in the same incident, we also replace quarter glass and side windows.

Can a cracked rear window be repaired?

Rarely. Most back glass is tempered and can't be repaired once it cracks, so replacement is the safe option.

Will my rear defroster work after replacement?

Replacement back glass comes with its own defroster grid. We reconnect it and test it before we finish.

Do you replace liftgate glass on SUVs?

Yes. We replace liftgate and hatch glass as well as fixed rear windows on sedans, trucks and vans.

Is it safe to drive with a shattered back window?

It's best to avoid it. Loose fragments can fall into the cabin, rain can get in and the car can't be secured, so we come to you instead.
